Compact Cabin in Idaho

The idea for this project was to create an efficient, cost-effective cabin for short term visits of variably sized groups. Still cozy for small families, the cabin is designed to accommodate large family gatherings of 12+ people for a week at a time. The architecture is conceived as a permanent tent– an updated riff on the ubiquitous midcentury A-frame. The site is in Driggs, ID on former agricultural land with big sky views towards the Big Hole range to the west and a large window wall focusing on the grand Teton to the east. A seasonal irrigation ditch creates a natural boundary from the street side of the property and gives the cabin a visual and audible anchor point in the landscape.
