July 31st, 2024 | LN | Culture

We have a new addition to our office– Sky Torus (variant 2:2, 2023), an artwork by California artist Phillip K. Smith III. I first came across Phillip's work at an exhibition at the Palm Springs Art Museum in 2022 and later realized I knew "The Circle of Land and Sky" from Desert X and Lucid Stead, a mirrored cabin in the California Desert. Sky Torus will hang in our office...

Architect Lina Bo Bardi designed the Frei Egídio chair in 1987 for the Theater Gregoria De Matos in Salvador, Brazil. Richard Serra

April 11th, 2024 | BS | Culture

In our every day practice we talk about the feeling of space. The feeling is a result of a careful manipulation of volume, scale, material, light, texture, and color. We strive for an architectural simplicity that allows these spaces to exist in an intuitive and unadorned manner. While there are certainly other architects that I admire that are successful in creating spaces that...

Design/Build in Academia

February 27th, 2024 | BS | Education

Architecture is at its most real when it is experienced. Architecture is not only an opportunity to theorize and question, but an obligation to construct, test, and understand. Ultimately, architecture is real and tangible, and architectural ideas become realized when they can be experienced.

In 2011, during our time at the Virginia Tech College of Architecture, Arts and Design, we...

Just north of Yellowstone, between Bozeman and Billings, Montana lies Tippet Rise Art Center. Tippet Rise was founded by Cathy and Peter Halstead in 2016 and is seasonally open to the public via an online reservation system...
