This guest house and gym in Jackson, WY consists of two enclosed volumes that are connected by a shared roof and arranged to create a sheltered entry and deck. The building is clad with clear, vertical grain cedar siding to match the adjacent main house and structured with exposed heavy timbers. If the design of the adjacent main house was influenced predominantly by mid-century American architecture with a touch of Japanese design influence, the guest house leans more heavily on traditional Japanese design principles with a touch of mid-century modernism. The building site is located at the foot of the Snake River bench in sagebrush flats and is oriented to square up to dramatic views of the Tetons from Rendezvous Mountain at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort to the Grand Teton.
